Alexander Wilson is a bespoke jeweller and curator of exceptional gemstones and living craft traditions. Working closely with each client, he creates individually commissioned jewellery that brings together extraordinary stones, traditional Indian and contemporary making techniques and the skills of specialist craftspeople from across Jaipur, Bangkok and Australia. Every piece is made with intention, often passing through several workshops and many skilled hands, resulting in jewellery that is deeply personal, rich in character and made to be treasured for generations. Alexander has worked across the international and independent jewellery worlds, including with luxury houses Bulgari and Cartier, and Melbourne fine jeweller and gallery Gray Reid Gallery in the historic Melbourne Antique Jewellery District.

Originally trained in Fine Arts, specialising in sculpture, Alexander went on to complete an intensive two-year diploma in gemmology with the Gemmological Association of Australia, graduating in 2011.

Today, through Alexander Gems & Jewels, he creates bespoke jewellery for private clients internationally and works with designers and collectors to source exceptional gemstones, jewellery and objects. His work brings together his knowledge of gemstones, design and craftsmanship with the specialist artisans and traditional techniques he has encountered through years of working in India.

Custom kundan star rings can be achieved in most gemstones but for this project I chose a carveable classic throughout history. These rings are crafted using the traditional Indian inlay and setting technique called kundan, a process that employs purified 24-carat gold. The gold is beaten into extremely fine ribbons and carefully pressed into anchor cavities and motifs carved directly into the surface of the gemstone.
